Early in her career, Danielle Keane is already making a name as one of New Zealand’s most promising bathroom interior designers. With a passion for tiles, vintage charm, and attention to detail, she’s reimagining bathroom spaces. We sat down with Danielle to discuss her journey, inspirations, and the future of design

HOW DID YOUR PATH INTO DESIGN BEGIN?

My dad is a tiler, so I grew up surrounded by the world of tiles. When I worked in a tile retailer, I noticed a real gap in the market for a service that offered not just products, but full-scale drafting and design for bathrooms. That inspired me to create a business where I guide clients from concept right through to tile selection and procurement. Over the years, I’ve gained deep knowledge working across bathroom ware, furniture, and tiles and I love helping people realise their design dreams. I’m also studying to become an Architectural Technician at Wintec, with the goal of offering full drawing services for home renovations in the future.

WHAT SERVICES DOES YOUR BUSINESS OFFER?

I provide a friendly, transparent service that covers bathroom design, colour consultation, product specification and tile procurement. It’s about making the process enjoyable while ensuring every detail is carefully considered.

YOU WORK CLOSELY WITH ENHANCED RENOVATIONS – HOW DID THAT COLLABORATION COME ABOUT?

I first met Justin Carter from Enhanced Renovations a few years ago while working as a tile and bathware consultant. I approached him about collaborating, and over time, we built both a friendship and a mentorship. When I launched my own business, Justin was my first client – something I’ll always be grateful for. I now contract to him and love being part of his team’s projects.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN OFFERING DESIGN SERVICES?

I’ve been helping people select tiles for over six years, expanded into bathroom ware around two and a half years ago, and officially launched my own design services in February 2025.

WHERE DID YOUR LOVE OF DESIGN TRULY BEGIN?

I’ve always loved colour and interiors, but working with tiles ignited my passion. I became fascinated with both the technical side of the tile industry and the beauty of styles and trends as they evolve.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK?

The people. Every project is different, and I thrive on connecting with clients and seeing their excitement when the design comes to life.

WHERE DO YOU SEE NEW ZEALAND DESIGN HEADING?

I think Kiwis are starting to move away from playing it safe and are embracing self-expression in their homes. Traditionally, many homeowners were concerned with resale value, but now we’re seeing bolder choices and more personality in design. Sustainability is also a big focus, with brands responding by offering better eco-conscious options.

WHAT SORT OF TRENDS ARE YOU SEEING?

Terracotta is definitely making a comeback, alongside soft, natural tones like forest green, olive, linen, and sand. Limewash finishes and micro cement are becoming very popular. I’m also seeing a big rise in upcycling – people buying vintage wooden furniture and giving it new life, which brings such character to a home.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO HOMEOWNERS EMBARKING ON A RENOVATION?

Trust your instincts. Most people circle back to their first choice after second-guessing themselves. Always take samples home – see how they look in different lights, and how they clean and feel. Your home is your haven; you should love every detail.

FINALLY, WHAT’S THE MOST UNUSUAL DESIGN CHOICE YOU’VE COME ACROSS?

Carpeted bathrooms. I will never quite understand that one!

“I love guiding clients from concept to finished bathroom, making every detail feel just right and every space a home they love.”

Danielle Keane is proof that passion, curiosity, and creativity can open doors to exciting new design horizons. With her vintage-inspired sensibility and focus on sustainable, character-filled interiors, she is part of a new generation of designers shaping how we live – and how we dream.
